We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Driving round Glasgow looking for a yard that will take your car, then accepting whatever the weighbridge says, is the old way of scrapping a car. It still suits some people with a running, road-legal car and a free afternoon. For everyone else, collection does the same job without the trip, and you know the price before anything moves.

Send the registration and your postcode on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can collect and what we can pay. Collection is free: distance is one of the things that sets the price, so the figure quoted already allows for the journey. Payment is by bank transfer, and the paperwork is dealt with by the licensed facility that scraps the car.

Glasgow is roughly 105 miles down the A82 from our Fort William base, and we have no depot in the city. Collections across the city are grouped into scheduled runs, and the date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us exactly where the car is parked, because street parking decides which truck we send. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Glasgow are on our Glasgow collection page.

Getting your car to a yard without driving it

Taking a car to a yard yourself sounds simple until you check the rules. To be driven there, the car needs tax, insurance and a valid MOT, and a non-runner has to be towed or trailered, which brings its own risks. Then there is the price. A yard weighing a car at the gate has every reason to be cautious, and you have little room to argue once you have made the trip. With collection, the order is reversed. You send the registration and an honest description, you get a firm price in writing, and only then does a recovery vehicle come to your address. If the car matches what you told us, the figure agreed is the figure paid, by bank transfer.

Not every scrap yard can take a car

The phrase scrap yard covers two very different businesses. A scrap metal merchant buys metal: old radiators, cable, cookers and offcuts. It needs a metal dealer's licence from the council, but that alone does not let it take in a whole car. An end-of-life vehicle still holds fuel, oil, coolant, refrigerant and a battery, so the law treats it as hazardous waste until it has been depolluted, and only an Authorised Treatment Facility with an environmental permit from SEPA in Scotland or the Environment Agency in England may do that. That facility is also the only place that can issue a Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped. So before you take a car anywhere, ask which kind of yard it is.

Weight, metal prices and the rest of the quote

Yards tend to talk in price per tonne, which sounds precise but leaves out what the car still has on it. Our quote works from the registration, which tells us the make, model and weight, and from your description of what is fitted and what works. From there, the main moving part is the metal market: prices change from week to week, which is why we tell you how long a quote stands when we send it. The catalytic converter, alloy wheels and any parts in demand can lift the figure. Missing parts, or a car that is hard to reach, can lower it. Collection costs nothing extra: distance is one of the factors, and the figure we agree is what you are paid.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My car is not LEZ compliant. Can you still collect it in Glasgow?

Yes. The zone's penalties are for driving a non-compliant vehicle inside it, and a car carried on a recovery truck is not being driven. If the car is parked inside the zone, leave it where it is rather than driving it out, and tell us the street when you send the reg so the driver can plan the approach.

Is it legal to tow a broken car to a scrap yard?

It can be, but it is rarely practical. Towing on a rope or bar needs a vehicle able to handle the weight, someone competent steering the towed car, working brakes and steering on it, and the right insurance cover. A non-runner with seized brakes or no keys can fail on those alone. A recovery vehicle carries the car clear of the road, which is what we send.

Will a scrap yard take a car without the V5C?

Usually, yes. The seller shows photo ID and proof the car is theirs, such as a purchase receipt. Without the V5C you cannot tell the DVLA online, so you write to it instead with your name and address, the reg, make and model, the exact date of sale and the buyer's name and address. Tell us the V5C is missing before we quote.

Why can you not give me a price per tonne like a yard?

Because we are quoting for the whole job, not weighing at a gate. Our figure takes in the weight, current metal prices, the make and model, the condition and what is still fitted, plus distance and access. The figure we agree is the figure you are paid if the car matches.

What should I remove before the car goes for scrap?

Personal belongings from the cabin, boot and door pockets, any parking permit or toll tag, and dashcams or phone holders you want to keep. If the car carries a private number plate, apply to the DVLA to keep it first. Leave the wheels, battery and parts fitted unless you told us otherwise.
