We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Walsall is a Black Country borough with the M6 running down its western side: junction 10 for the town centre and the A454, junction 9 for Bescot and Darlaston, and junction 7 for Great Barr and the Birmingham side. Bloxwich, Pelsall and Walsall Wood sit to the north, Aldridge and Streetly to the east, and Willenhall and Darlaston to the west. Tell us where the car sits, at the kerb on a terraced street, on a drive, in a garage court or in a shared car park, and whether the road is narrow, so we send the right truck. Walsall has no Clean Air Zone of its own. Birmingham's, next door, covers the roads inside the A4540 Middleway ring road and has charged non-compliant cars a daily fee since June 2021. That matters if you drive into central Birmingham; around Walsall itself, an older car can be used as normal.

Motor Salvage Group buys end-of-life cars and vans in Walsall and the surrounding area. Tell us the registration, whether the car starts and whether you have the V5C, and we come back with a firm price. There is no collection charge and no admin fee: the figure we quote already allows for the journey, and the figure we agree is what you are paid.

Where in Walsall we collect

Our drivers cover Bloxwich, Aldridge, Darlaston, Pelsall, Rushall, Walsall Wood, Brownhills, Shelfield, Palfrey and Caldmore, across the WS1, WS2, WS3, WS4, WS5, WS8, WS9 and WS10 postcode areas. If your postcode is not listed, send it with the reg anyway and we will confirm on WhatsApp whether we can collect.

How collection works in Walsall

Motor Salvage Group is based in Fort William, nearly 400 miles from Walsall, and has no site in the West Midlands. Walsall jobs are grouped with other collections in the Midlands into scheduled runs, which come round less often than our Scottish ones. The date is agreed when you accept the price and the driver rings on approach. Collection is free: the journey is already allowed for in the price, and you are paid by bank transfer.

What to have ready before the driver arrives

Scrapping is final, so check nothing of value is left in the car. Do not forget a personalised plate: once the car is destroyed the number cannot be recovered, so retain it through the DVLA first, as what to sort out before you scrap a car explains. Take out your belongings, any removable stereo or sat nav, and service books you might want to keep. On the day, have photo ID, any keys you have and the V5C if you have it. If a wheel will not turn after months standing, mention it when you send the reg so the right equipment comes to Walsall.

How a scrap price is worked out

A car at the end of its life is valued mostly on weight and metal, so a large estate or 4x4 usually carries more value than a small hatchback, and mileage makes little difference. Completeness matters: a car with its catalytic converter, battery and wheels still fitted is worth more than one that has been stripped. The make and model count where the engine or gearbox is in demand, and a newer car with one costly fault may be worth more if you look at selling it as a broken car. Distance from Fort William and how easy the car is to load are part of the figure, which is why there is no separate collection charge. Scrap metal prices move, so we tell you how long the price stands.

Paperwork once your car is scrapped

The piece of paper that matters is the Certificate of Destruction. The licensed treatment facility issues it when your car is scrapped, not us, and it shows the vehicle was destroyed legally; the facility also informs the DVLA. Selling to us counts as a sale to the motor trade, so report the sale to the DVLA yourself as well. GOV.UK says you can be fined if you do not, and until the DVLA knows, you are still recorded as the keeper. You can cancel the insurance once the car has been collected, as there is no need to wait for the certificate. Keep the certificate with your records, alongside the date the car left Walsall, in case a letter about it ever arrives.

Read our full guide to scrapping a car, see what happens after you send the reg, or get your price now.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Which Walsall postcodes do you cover?

WS1 to WS5, WS8, WS9 and WS10, which takes in the town centre, Bloxwich, Pelsall, Rushall, Shelfield, Brownhills, Aldridge, Walsall Wood and Darlaston. Willenhall (WV12, WV13) and Streetly (B74) are in Walsall borough but use other postcodes, while Wolverhampton, Cannock and West Bromwich lie outside it. For any of these, send your postcode with the reg on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can collect.

Can you collect from a terraced street with no driveway in Walsall?

Yes. The driver loads from the kerb, so a clear stretch of road in front of or near the car is all that is needed. If the street is one way or very narrow, tell us when you book so the right truck is sent and the driver knows what to expect.

My car is not compliant with the Birmingham Clean Air Zone. Is it worth selling?

That depends on how often you drive into central Birmingham. Walsall has no zone of its own, so the car can still be used around the borough without a charge. If you need to go inside the A4540 ring road regularly, weigh the daily charge and any repairs against the price we quote for the car as it is.

How long will I wait for collection in Walsall?

There is no set number of days. Each Midlands run is planned around the other cars booked on it, so the wait depends on where your car fits. Working to a deadline, such as a landlord wanting the space back? Tell us with the reg and we will say whether a run can meet it.

Can you collect a car in Walsall if the keys are lost?

Yes. Missing keys are fine, because the car is winched onto a recovery truck rather than driven, but they can change the price and the vehicle we send. Tell us when you ask for a price, including whether the only key is lost or just faulty, so the right truck is booked for the Walsall collection.

My car in Walsall is on SORN or still taxed. What do I need to sort out?

Very little. A car on SORN can be sold and collected, as long as it stays off the public road until it goes; one parked on a Walsall street must be taxed, insured and have a valid MOT. Once you tell the DVLA you have sold it, any vehicle tax is cancelled, full months left are refunded automatically and a Direct Debit stops too.

Is the V5C essential for scrapping a car?

It makes the sale simpler, but it is not essential. With a logbook, the driver takes the main document and the yellow motor trade slip stays with you for telling the DVLA online or by post. Without one, show photo ID and proof that the car is yours, such as a purchase receipt, and write to the DVLA with the date of sale and our details.

Will you scrap a car that has no engine or no wheels?

Yes. A shell, or a car with its engine already taken out, is priced on its weight and whatever is still fitted, so the figure is lower than for a complete car. Tell us exactly what has gone, and whether the car still sits on wheels, because a car without them needs different loading equipment.

My car still has finance on it. Can I scrap it?

Not until the finance is dealt with. A car on hire purchase or PCP belongs to the finance company until the agreement is settled, so settle it first or get the lender's written permission to sell. Mention the agreement when you ask for a price, so the collection can be planned around it.

Could my car be worth more than its scrap value?

Possibly. If it is a newer or popular model with a sound engine and gearbox, parts demand can lift the price above its metal value, and we price that in. If it has one costly fault, whether or not it still runs, read about selling a broken car as it is.
