Lowestoft is the most easterly town in Britain, on the Suffolk coast between Great Yarmouth and Southwold, and it is a long way from the Highlands. The A47 comes down from Great Yarmouth, the A146 runs in from Norwich through Beccles, and the A12 heads south through Kessingland towards Ipswich. The Bascule Bridge and, since 2024, the Gull Wing bridge carry traffic across Lake Lothing between the north and south of the town. Wherever the car is, from Kirkley and the station area to Gunton, Oulton Broad, Carlton Colville or Pakefield, tell us whether it is on a drive, at the kerb or in a shared car park, so we send the right truck. Salt air on the coast is hard on bodywork, so tell us about any rust in the sills or floor when you ask for a price. There is no Clean Air Zone here.
If your car has reached the point where repairs no longer make sense, we will buy it for scrap. A failed MOT, a seized engine, rust through the sills or years sitting on SORN are all fine. You give us the reg and a short description, we give you a firm price, and a recovery vehicle collects it free of charge.
Where in Lowestoft we collect
Our drivers cover Pakefield, Kirkley, Oulton Broad, Gunton, Carlton Colville, Normanston, Kessingland, Corton and Beccles, across the NR32, NR33 and NR34 postcode areas. If your postcode is not listed, send it with the reg anyway and we will confirm on WhatsApp whether we can collect.
How collection works in Lowestoft
Lowestoft is over 500 miles from our Fort William base, so we are plain about timing: collections here are grouped into less frequent runs and booked well in advance. The date is agreed when you accept the price. The driver calls on approach, checks the car against your description, sees your photo ID, takes the V5C if you have it and loads it. You are paid by bank transfer, and the licensed ATF issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA once the car is scrapped.
Getting the car ready for collection
It helps to sort the small things first. Find the logbook, or tell us now if it is lost, and keep your driving licence or passport nearby for the ID check. Empty the car: sat navs, dashcams, child seats, parking permits and anything tucked under the seats. A private plate you want to keep has to come off through the DVLA before the car goes, and our pre-scrap checklist lists the other jobs worth doing. A car on SORN has to stay off the public road until collection, and one parked on the street must be taxed, insured and have a valid MOT. If the car is in a garage, a shared court or a car park in Lowestoft, let us know how the recovery vehicle reaches it and whether anyone needs to open a gate or barrier.
How a scrap price is worked out
A car at the end of its life is valued mostly on weight and metal, so a large estate or 4x4 usually carries more value than a small hatchback, and mileage makes little difference. Completeness matters: a car with its catalytic converter, battery and wheels still fitted is worth more than one that has been stripped. The make and model count where the engine or gearbox is in demand, and a newer car with one costly fault may be worth more if you look at selling it as a broken car. Distance from Fort William and how easy the car is to load are part of the figure, which is why there is no separate collection charge. Scrap metal prices move, so we tell you how long the price stands.
Paperwork once your car is scrapped
Once the car leaves Lowestoft it goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility. The facility removes fuel, oil, coolant, the battery and other hazardous parts, recovers anything reusable and sends the shell for recycling, and when the car is scrapped it issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA. Your own step is to tell the DVLA that you have sold the car to the motor trade; GOV.UK says you can be fined if you do not. Once the DVLA knows, the tax stops and any full months left are refunded automatically. Cancel your insurance after collection, and file the certificate somewhere safe.

Learn moreQuestions people ask us
Do you cover Beccles, Kessingland and the villages around Lowestoft?
Yes. NR32 and NR33 cover Lowestoft, Oulton Broad, Pakefield, Carlton Colville, Corton and Kessingland, and NR34 takes in Beccles. Bungay, Hopton and the Norfolk side towards Gorleston may be possible on the same run: send the postcode with the reg and we will confirm on WhatsApp whether we can collect.
How long will collection in Lowestoft take to arrange?
Longer than for our Scottish towns, because of the distance. We agree a firm date when you accept the price, and the car can stay where it is until then. If it is parked on a public road it must stay taxed, insured and, if it needs one, covered by a valid MOT while you wait; if it is kept off the road, declare it SORN.
My car is badly rusted and the floor has gone. Is it still worth anything?
Usually, yes. Rust takes value off the body, but the metal still counts, and so do the engine, gearbox and any other parts that are still sound. Tell us honestly how bad the corrosion is, so the price reflects the car and the driver brings the right equipment to load it safely.
Is the V5C essential for scrapping a car?
It makes the sale simpler, but it is not essential. With a logbook, the driver takes the main document and the yellow motor trade slip stays with you for telling the DVLA online or by post. Without one, show photo ID and proof that the car is yours, such as a purchase receipt, and write to the DVLA with the date of sale and our details.
Do you scrap vans and 4x4s as well as cars?
Yes. We buy vans, 4x4s and light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes as well as cars. A heavier vehicle carries more metal, which counts in its favour, but racking, tools or rubbish left in the back must come out first. Tell us the body type and anything fitted to it when you send the reg.
The car is not registered to me. Can I still scrap it?
It depends on why. If it belonged to a relative who has died, the person dealing with their estate can sell it, with photo ID and papers showing that role, such as the will, grant of probate or confirmation in Scotland. If the logbook still shows a previous keeper, tell us before we book the Lowestoft collection and we will explain what proof we need.
Could my car be worth more than its scrap value?
Possibly. If it is a newer or popular model with a sound engine and gearbox, parts demand can lift the price above its metal value, and we price that in. If it has one costly fault, whether or not it still runs, read about selling a broken car as it is.
