We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Motor Salvage Group buys damaged cars in Lowestoft: Category B, S and N write-offs that you own, accident damage you chose not to claim for, and cars hit by flood or fire. Send the registration, the category if there is one, and photos of the damage, and we reply with a price that counts the undamaged parts as well as the metal.

We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name, and there is no collection charge or admin fee: the journey from Fort William is part of the price we quote. If the car's problem is mechanical rather than damage, our page on selling a broken car in Lowestoft fits better.

Lowestoft is the furthest town we cover, over 500 miles from our Fort William base, so collections here are grouped into less frequent runs and booked well in advance. We agree the date when you accept the price, and the car can stay where it is until then. Collection is free: the price we quote already allows for the journey. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Lowestoft are on our Lowestoft collection page.

Is your car a write-off or just damaged?

Only an insurer gives a car a write-off category, and only after a claim. Category A means the whole car must be crushed, so we take one only for crushing. Category B means the shell must be crushed, although parts can be recovered. Category S covers structural damage, such as to the chassis or crumple zones, and Category N covers damage that is not structural. If you never claimed, the car has no category: it is simply damaged, and we buy it on that basis. Offered the chance to keep a Category S or N car? The insurer usually deducts its salvage value from your settlement, so compare that deduction with a salvage price from us before you decide. A car the insurer has taken is theirs to dispose of, not yours to sell.

Photos that get an accurate salvage price

A salvage price rests on what survived the damage, so show us the good parts as well as the bad. A front-end collision may leave the gearbox, interior, rear panels and wheels untouched, and those all count. Send wide shots of all four sides, close-ups of the impact, and pictures of the seats, dashboard and engine bay. Note the mileage, the category from any settlement letter and whether the airbags deployed. If the car is at a garage or compound in Lowestoft, ask whether someone there can take the photos. The more we can see, the less chance of a surprise when the driver arrives.

When your damaged car is not at home

If your insurer moved the car after the crash, find out where it is now and who holds it. Once you have agreed to keep the car after the claim, the storage site will usually want to hear from you before it lets the car go. Ask what paperwork they need and whether any fees are owed. Check the finance too: if the car is on hire purchase or PCP, the finance company owns it and normally receives the settlement first, and the car cannot be sold until the agreement is settled or the lender gives written permission. Pass the details to us with the reg, the category, any outstanding finance and the address in Lowestoft. The driver will expect to see the release reference or authority, and payment goes to an account in your name by bank transfer, not to the site.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Do you cover Beccles, Kessingland and the villages around Lowestoft?

Yes. NR32 and NR33 cover Lowestoft, Oulton Broad, Pakefield, Carlton Colville, Corton and Kessingland, and NR34 takes in Beccles. Bungay, Hopton and the Norfolk side towards Gorleston may be possible on the same run: send the postcode with the reg and we will confirm on WhatsApp whether we can collect.

Which write-off categories do you buy?

Category B, S and N, plus damaged cars that were never claimed on and so have no category. Category B cars are bought for their parts, since the shell must be crushed. We can still take a Category A car, but only to be crushed at a licensed facility, so it is priced on its metal. Tell us if the settlement letter says Category A.

Does the damage need to be assessed before you give a price?

No separate assessment is needed. Clear photos of the damage, the mileage, the category if there is one, and a note of any airbags that deployed are enough for us to quote. The figure we agree is the figure paid, as long as the car matches the photos and description.

What documents and keys do you need for a damaged car?

Have the V5C, photo ID and any keys you have. A missing key is fine but can change the price and the recovery vehicle we send, so mention it. Without the V5C you can still sell: show proof of ownership, such as a purchase receipt, and write to the DVLA instead of telling it online. Once the DVLA knows, your tax is cancelled and any full months left are refunded.

Do you buy flood-damaged cars?

Yes. Flood water damages wiring, electronics and interiors, and corrosion follows, so a flooded car is often not worth repairing. Tell us how high the water came and for how long. Do not try to start a car that has been in deep water, because that can wreck the engine.
