We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Motor Salvage Group buys damaged cars in Walsall: Category B, S and N write-offs that you own, accident damage you chose not to claim for, and cars hit by flood or fire. Send the registration, the category if there is one, and photos of the damage, and we reply with a price that counts the undamaged parts as well as the metal.

We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name, and there is no collection charge or admin fee: the journey from Fort William is part of the price we quote. If the car's problem is mechanical rather than damage, our page on selling a broken car in Walsall fits better.

Walsall is nearly 400 miles from our Fort William base, so collections here are grouped into scheduled Midlands runs that come round less often than our Scottish ones. You know the collection date before you commit, because we agree it when you accept the price. Terraced streets are fine: the driver loads from the kerb. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Walsall are on our Walsall collection page.

Understanding the category on your car

The first question we ask about a damaged car is whether there has been an insurance claim. If there has, the insurer will have given it a category, and your settlement letter says which. We buy B, S and N cars that are yours to sell, although insurers usually let you keep only a Category S or N car. Keeping one comes at a cost: the insurer normally takes the car's salvage value off your payout, so set that figure against our price before you choose. A Category A car we take only for crushing. If you settled the damage privately or decided not to claim, there is no category at all, and the car is priced as accident damage, on what can still be recovered from it.

What we need to price a damaged car

Blurred photos taken at night make a damaged car look worse than it is, and a cautious price follows. Take your pictures in good light, standing far enough back to show each whole side, then move in on the damage. Open the doors and photograph the interior, including the steering wheel and dashboard airbags. If the engine bay is reachable, include that too. Tell us what happened, for example a side impact, a rollover or a flood, and whether the car has been started since. Send the photos with the reg and your postcode, and we reply with a firm salvage price.

When your damaged car is not at home

If your insurer moved the car after the crash, find out where it is now and who holds it. Once you have agreed to keep the car after the claim, the storage site will usually want to hear from you before it lets the car go. Ask what paperwork they need and whether any fees are owed. Check the finance too: if the car is on hire purchase or PCP, the finance company owns it and normally receives the settlement first, and the car cannot be sold until the agreement is settled or the lender gives written permission. Pass the details to us with the reg, the category, any outstanding finance and the address in Walsall. The driver will expect to see the release reference or authority, and payment goes to an account in your name by bank transfer, not to the site.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

How long will I wait for collection in Walsall?

There is no set number of days. Each Midlands run is planned around the other cars booked on it, so the wait depends on where your car fits. Working to a deadline, such as a landlord wanting the space back? Tell us with the reg and we will say whether a run can meet it.

Do you buy written-off cars?

Yes, as long as the car is yours to sell: Category B, S and N write-offs that you own, and damaged cars that never went through a claim and so have no category. Tell us the category if there is one. We can still take a Category A car, but only to be crushed at a licensed facility, so it is priced on its metal.

Which photos should I send for a salvage price?

One from each corner in daylight, close-ups of the damage, the dashboard with the ignition on if it still powers up, the interior and the engine bay. Add the mileage and which airbags deployed. Good photos let us give you a firm price for the car without seeing it first.

What documents and keys do you need for a damaged car?

Have the V5C, photo ID and any keys you have. A missing key is fine but can change the price and the recovery vehicle we send, so mention it. Without the V5C you can still sell: show proof of ownership, such as a purchase receipt, and write to the DVLA instead of telling it online. Once the DVLA knows, your tax is cancelled and any full months left are refunded.

Will you take a car that has been damaged by fire?

Yes. Fire damage is priced on what survived: a fire confined to the engine bay leaves more to recover than one that spread through the cabin. Send photos of every side and tell us where the fire started. The car is collected on a recovery vehicle.
