Scrap yard in Walsall: free collection instead of a trip

A scrap yard visit means a legal drive or a tow, then a price at the gate. Collection from your address in Walsall means a firm price first, no trip, and payment by bank transfer.

We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

If you are searching for a scrap yard, what you probably want is the car gone, a fair price and proof it was dealt with properly. The yard is only the means to that, and for a car that will not start, or one that is off the road, getting it there is the hardest part of the whole job.

Our side of the job starts from one message. Send the registration, the postcode and a description of the car as it is, including faults, missing parts and whether it starts, and add photos if you can. That is enough for a firm price. At collection, the driver needs photo ID from you and access to the car, not a journey to anywhere.

Walsall is nearly 400 miles from our Fort William base, so collections here are grouped into scheduled Midlands runs that come round less often than our Scottish ones. You know the collection date before you commit, because we agree it when you accept the price. Terraced streets are fine: the driver loads from the kerb. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Walsall are on our local collection notes.

Getting your car to a yard without driving it

Collection earns its keep with the cars that cannot easily reach a yard. A car with no valid MOT cannot legally be driven there. A car on a SORN has to stay off the road. A non-runner with flat tyres, no keys or a seized handbrake needs lifting, not towing. For any of those, a recovery vehicle is the safe and legal way out. It also means the price comes first: you send the reg and a description, we reply with a firm figure and how long it stands, and nothing moves until you accept. Collection is free, with the journey already allowed for in the price we quote, and payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name.

Scrap metal merchant or treatment facility?

Picture a yard that takes cookers and copper cable offering to take your car as well. It may be a perfectly good metal merchant, but unless it is an Authorised Treatment Facility it should not be taking a whole car onto its site, fluids and battery included. The problem lands on you afterwards. With no Certificate of Destruction you have nothing to show the car was scrapped, and if the DVLA is never told, its record can still name you as the keeper when a fine or a letter arrives. One direct question settles it: is the car going to an Authorised Treatment Facility, and who will issue the certificate? A legitimate yard or buyer will answer without hesitating.

What sets a scrap price in Walsall

Two cars of the same age can fetch different prices for good reasons. The first is weight, because scrap value is mainly the metal. The second is what is still fitted: an engine, gearbox, catalytic converter and a full set of wheels all add value that a stripped car does not have. The third is demand for that model's parts. The fourth is the metal market, which moves every week. The fifth is distance and access from our route to your address in Walsall. We roll all five into one firm figure and tell you how long it stands. If the car matches your description on the day, that is the figure you are paid, by bank transfer to an account in your name.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Can I sell a car in Walsall that still has finance on it?

Not until the finance is dealt with. A car on hire purchase or PCP belongs to the finance company until it is settled, so pay it off, or get the lender's written permission, before you sell. Tell us about any finance when you send the reg, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can I drive my car to a scrap yard myself?

Only if it is taxed, insured and has a valid MOT. An untaxed car, or one without an MOT, cannot legally be driven on the road except to a pre-booked MOT test, and a car on a SORN must stay off it. Collection from your address avoids the problem altogether.

What paperwork does a scrap yard give me?

A Certificate of Destruction, issued by the licensed treatment facility when the car is scrapped; the facility notifies the DVLA too. That certificate does not end your responsibility: telling the DVLA you sold the car to the motor trade does, online with the V5C reference or by posting the filled-in yellow V5C/3 slip. Your tax is then cancelled and any full months left refunded.

Will I get less if parts are missing?

Usually, yes. A car without its engine, catalytic converter, wheels or battery weighs less and has less to recover, so the price reflects it. That is fine as long as you tell us before we quote. Parts taken off after the price is agreed are exactly what makes a figure change on collection.

What should I remove before the car goes for scrap?

Personal belongings from the cabin, boot and door pockets, any parking permit or toll tag, and dashcams or phone holders you want to keep. If the car carries a private number plate, apply to the DVLA to keep it first. Leave the wheels, battery and parts fitted unless you told us otherwise.
