My car is in a garage court behind the house. Can you get it out?
It depends on the access, so tell us about it first. When you ask for a price, say which street the court opens off, roughly how far the car sits from its entrance and whether it is inside a lock-up or parked in the open. A photo of the entrance helps. If we cannot reach it, we will tell you honestly before anything is booked.
Is the V5C essential for scrapping a car?
It makes the sale simpler, but it is not essential. With a logbook, the driver takes the main document and the yellow motor trade slip stays with you for telling the DVLA online or by post. Without one, show photo ID and proof that the car is yours, such as a purchase receipt, and write to the DVLA with the date of sale and our details.
Should I take the battery or catalytic converter off before the car is scrapped?
No. Both are part of what the car is worth, and the price we quote assumes they are still fitted. Taking them off lowers the figure and gives you something else to dispose of. If either has already gone, or the converter was stolen, say so when you send the reg so the price is right first time.
I cannot be there on collection day. Can someone else hand the car over?
Yes, if you tell us before the collection. A nominated adult can meet the driver with their own photo ID and your written authority to hand the car over, plus any keys and the V5C if you have them. The payment still goes by bank transfer to an account in your name as the seller, not to the person who meets the driver.
Could my car be worth more than its scrap value?
