We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Choosing between car scrappers in Lowestoft is less about who advertises loudest and more about who can explain the process clearly, from the first message to the paperwork after collection. Anyone who turns vague when you ask for detail is best avoided, however good the figure sounds.

The price comes to you in writing on WhatsApp, together with how long it stands, because metal prices move. Keep that message. Accept the price while it stands and it becomes the agreed figure, the one you are paid. Once agreed, the only thing that can change it is the car turning out different from the description you gave us.

Lowestoft is the furthest town we cover, over 500 miles from our Fort William base, so collections here are grouped into less frequent runs and booked well in advance. We agree the date when you accept the price, and the car can stay where it is until then. Collection is free: the price we quote already allows for the journey. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Lowestoft are on our page for Lowestoft.

How to tell a genuine car scrapper from a risky one

Imagine two offers for the same car. One is a round figure over the phone with cash on collection. The other follows the registration and photos you sent, is paid by bank transfer and names an Authorised Treatment Facility as the destination, which is where the Certificate of Destruction comes from once the car is scrapped. The first is illegal, because cash for scrap vehicles is banned across Great Britain, and it leaves you with no record of the sale. The law also expects a buyer to hold a metal dealer's licence from the council and to note your photo ID. Be wary of anything that sounds official but is not: the DVLA does not approve or license scrap buyers, so talk of DVLA approval is a warning sign. A higher figure is worth little if it is cut at the kerb.

What decides a scrapper's price in Lowestoft

A fair scrap price is built from a handful of things, and a buyer should be able to name them. The car's weight and the current metal prices set the base. Anything missing lowers it, especially the catalytic converter, which contains precious metals. Parts still in demand, such as a sound gearbox on a common model, can raise it. The journey to Lowestoft and the access at your address are part of the figure too, so a quote with no collection charge has already allowed for them. If a scrapper cannot explain their number in those terms, it is hard to know whether it will survive the visit. If an accident rather than age ended the car's life, a salvage price may count the surviving parts.

Handover day: paperwork, ID and payment

Send the registration, your postcode and a short description on WhatsApp. We confirm whether we can collect and send our price. Once you accept, we agree a collection date. When the driver arrives, they check the car against your description, look at your photo ID and record the sale, as dealers must. Once the driver has checked the car and seen your ID, we pay by bank transfer to an account in your name. Tell the DVLA you have sold the car to the motor trade: that ends your responsibility and the DVLA refunds any full months of road tax left. When the car is scrapped, the licensed Authorised Treatment Facility we use notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

How long will collection in Lowestoft take to arrange?

Longer than for our Scottish towns, because of the distance. We agree a firm date when you accept the price, and the car can stay where it is until then. If it is parked on a public road it must stay taxed, insured and, if it needs one, covered by a valid MOT while you wait; if it is kept off the road, declare it SORN.

Can I scrap my car without the V5C?

Yes, a legitimate scrapper can still buy it, but expect a few more checks. We ask for photo ID and proof you own the car, such as a purchase receipt. Without the logbook you cannot report the sale online, so you write to the DVLA instead, giving your name and address, the registration, make and model, the exact date of sale and the buyer's name and address.

Why does a scrapper ask about keys before quoting?

Because keys affect how the car is moved and what it is worth. Without them the steering may stay locked and the car may need different equipment to load it, so missing keys can change the price and the vehicle we send. A buyer who asks now, rather than at your door, is pricing the car honestly. Tell us about keys when you send the reg.

Can a scrapper hand me the Certificate of Destruction at collection?

No. Only an Authorised Treatment Facility can issue one, and only once the car has reached it for scrapping. A driver who offers you a certificate on the doorstep is mistaken at best. What matters at collection is that the sale and your details are recorded properly.

Can a scrapper buy a car that still has finance on it?

Not until the finance is dealt with. A car on hire purchase or PCP belongs to the finance company until it is settled, so settle it first, or get the lender's written permission to sell. Tell us about the agreement when you ask for a price, so the sale can be planned around it.
