We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Choosing between car scrappers in Paisley is less about who advertises loudest and more about who can explain the process clearly, from the first message to the paperwork after collection. Anyone who turns vague when you ask for detail is best avoided, however good the figure sounds.

The price comes to you in writing on WhatsApp, together with how long it stands, because metal prices move. Keep that message. Accept the price while it stands and it becomes the agreed figure, the one you are paid. Once agreed, the only thing that can change it is the car turning out different from the description you gave us.

Paisley is about 110 miles from our Fort William base, and jobs here share runs with Glasgow and Inverclyde, which makes Renfrewshire one of the easier areas for us to reach. Collection is still scheduled, with the date agreed when you accept the price. Tell us whether the car is on a tenement street or a driveway. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Paisley are on our local page.

Checks to make before you choose a scrapper in Paisley

Imagine two offers for the same car. One is a round figure over the phone with cash on collection. The other follows the registration and photos you sent, is paid by bank transfer and names an Authorised Treatment Facility as the destination, which is where the Certificate of Destruction comes from once the car is scrapped. The first is illegal, because cash for scrap vehicles is banned across Great Britain, and it leaves you with no record of the sale. The law also expects a buyer to hold a metal dealer's licence from the council and to note your photo ID. Be wary of anything that sounds official but is not: the DVLA does not approve or license scrap buyers, so talk of DVLA approval is a warning sign. A higher figure is worth little if it is cut at the kerb.

What decides a scrapper's price in Paisley

Most of a scrap car's value is its metal, so weight sets the starting point and that week's metal prices move it up or down. Completeness comes next: a car with its catalytic converter, wheels and battery still fitted is worth more than one that has been stripped. Where the engine or gearbox is still in demand, the make and model can add to the figure, and a car with one costly fault may do better through a sale as a broken car. Distance and access count as well; in our quotes they are built into the figure rather than added as a collection charge. When one figure sits far above the others for the same description, ask how it was reached and what could lower it at the door.

What happens when we collect your car

Have three things to hand: photo ID, the V5C logbook if you still have it, and details of a bank account in your name. Clear the car of belongings, including the boot, door pockets and any parking permit. If the car has a private plate you want to keep, apply to the DVLA to retain it before collection, because a number cannot be taken off a car once it has been scrapped. Tell us about missing keys, flat tyres or a tight parking spot so the right recovery vehicle is sent. The driver checks the car against what you told us and records your details. If it matches, the agreed price stands and is paid by bank transfer. The Certificate of Destruction follows from the treatment facility when the car is scrapped.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Can you collect from a tenement street in Paisley town centre?

Yes, as long as the driver can stop safely and winch the car onto the truck. Tell us the street and whether the car is in a bay, a back court or a lane so the right vehicle is sent, and have any keys, and the V5C if you have it, ready at the agreed time.

I cannot find the V5C. Can I still scrap the car?

Yes. Expect an ID check and a request for proof of ownership, such as the receipt from when you bought it. The DVLA's online service needs the logbook reference, so you write to them instead, giving your name and address, the registration, make and model, the exact date of sale and the buyer's name and address. If the car is registered to someone else, tell us before we quote.

I only have a spare key. Is that enough for a scrapper?

Hand over any keys you have, whether that is the main key, a spare or a worn one. Tell us how many there are when you ask for a price, because missing or faulty keys can change both the figure and the recovery vehicle we send, particularly if the steering lock is on.

What proves I no longer own the car once it is scrapped?

Your own notice to the DVLA that you have sold the car to the motor trade. That ends your responsibility, and the DVLA refunds any full months of road tax left. The Authorised Treatment Facility issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA when the car is scrapped. You can cancel the insurance as soon as the car has been collected. Keep the certificate with your records.

Why would a scrapper ask whether the car is on finance?

Because a car on hire purchase or PCP is not yours to sell until the agreement is settled: it belongs to the finance company. Asking keeps the sale lawful for both sides. Settle the balance, or get the lender's written permission, and tell us about the agreement when you ask for a price.
