We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Electric cars come to the end of their lives for ordinary reasons, from accident damage to a fault that costs more than the car is worth. What changes is the battery pack. We collect EVs and hybrids from Paisley free of charge, pay by bank transfer and make sure the car goes to a facility equipped to deal with that pack.

From Paisley the car goes to a licensed partner facility equipped for high-voltage work, where trained staff isolate and remove the battery before the rest of the vehicle is dismantled and recycled. When the car is scrapped, the facility notifies the DVLA and issues your Certificate of Destruction. We do not sell EV batteries or parts.

Paisley is about 110 miles from our Fort William base, and jobs here share runs with Glasgow and Inverclyde, which makes Renfrewshire one of the easier areas for us to reach. Collection is still scheduled, with the date agreed when you accept the price. Tell us whether the car is on a tenement street or a driveway. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Paisley are on our local page.

Preparing an EV or hybrid in Paisley for collection

An electric car needs a little more preparation than a petrol one. Start with the 12-volt battery: many EVs will not release the parking brake or go into neutral without it, so tell us if it is flat. Then the charging cables: leave any that came with the car in the boot and tell us if they are missing. Keep every key or key card together, including spares. Finally, do not try to charge a car with a damaged pack, and keep it parked outdoors in Paisley, away from buildings, until it has been collected.

How the high-voltage pack is handled

Is the battery simply thrown away? No, and it cannot legally be: batteries from vehicles may not be sent to landfill or incinerated. A facility that takes an electric car also needs safe storage for packs, including quarantine space for damaged ones that could overheat. Healthy packs can be tested for a second life in stationary storage; the rest go to specialist recyclers who recover the metals from the cells. Motor Salvage Group does not handle the battery itself. We buy the car, collect it from Paisley and deliver it to partners equipped for that work.

Pricing an electric car for scrap

An electric car is priced on more than its weight. The battery matters a great deal: a pack that still holds a useful charge is worth more to the facility than one that has failed, been flooded or been damaged in a crash. The drive motor, inverter, on-board charger and wiring add value when undamaged. Make, model, age, mileage and overall condition count as they would for any car, and so does the collection distance to Paisley. Tell us the range the car was achieving, any battery warnings and the exact damage, and the figure we agree is the figure you are paid, provided the car matches.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Do you collect from Johnstone, Linwood and Renfrew as well as Paisley?

Yes. The PA1 to PA8 area is covered, including Johnstone, Linwood, Elderslie, Renfrew, Bishopton and Erskine, and we also collect from Barrhead and Neilston on the East Renfrewshire side. Send your postcode with the reg and we will confirm on WhatsApp.

Can you collect an electric car in Paisley that will not move?

Yes. The driver brings a recovery vehicle and does not try to start, charge or drive the car. Tell us if the 12-volt battery is flat as well, because many electric cars cannot be put into neutral or have the parking brake released without it, which changes how the car is loaded.

How should I keep a damaged EV until it is collected?

Park it outdoors, away from buildings, other cars and anything that burns, and do not charge it. A battery damaged in a crash or by water can overheat hours or days later. If you see smoke or hear hissing or popping from the car, keep well away and call 999.

Can I scrap an electric car that is still on finance?

Not until the finance is settled. On hire purchase or PCP the finance company owns the car until the agreement ends, so ask the lender for a settlement figure first. If the battery was leased separately, as on some older EVs, the same applies to the battery. Tell us about either when you ask for a price.

Can I get a price without a battery health report?

Yes. The battery's condition is one of the main things that sets the price, so send what you know: the mileage, how far the car went on a full charge before it stopped, any dashboard warnings and whether it still charges. A health figure from the maker's app or a garage is useful if you have one, but it is not required.
