Motor Salvage Group buys electric and hybrid cars for scrap from addresses in Dundee. Tell us the model, whether the battery is damaged and where the car is parked, and we come back with a firm price. Collection is free, the car is loaded onto a recovery vehicle without being driven, and payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name.
From Dundee the car goes to a licensed partner facility equipped for high-voltage work, where trained staff isolate and remove the battery before the rest of the vehicle is dismantled and recycled. When the car is scrapped, the facility notifies the DVLA and issues your Certificate of Destruction. We do not sell EV batteries or parts.
Dundee is around 130 miles from our Fort William base, and collections in the city, Broughty Ferry and the Angus side are grouped into scheduled runs across Tayside. We agree the date when you accept the price, and the driver rings on approach. Tell us if the car is in a multi-storey or a communal court. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Dundee are on our page for Dundee.
Before the driver arrives: an EV checklist
Tell us first whether the car can be put into neutral. That often depends on the small 12-volt battery rather than the main pack, so the driver should know in advance if it is flat. Say too whether the high-voltage battery has been damaged: a car that has been in a collision, a flood or a fire needs a different plan, and must not be charged in the meantime. Then clear your data. Remove the car from the maker's app and reset the infotainment system, so your account, contacts and home address are not left behind when it leaves Dundee.
Where the battery goes after collection
Is the battery simply thrown away? No, and it cannot legally be: batteries from vehicles may not be sent to landfill or incinerated. A facility that takes an electric car also needs safe storage for packs, including quarantine space for damaged ones that could overheat. Healthy packs can be tested for a second life in stationary storage; the rest go to specialist recyclers who recover the metals from the cells. Motor Salvage Group does not handle the battery itself. We buy the car, collect it from Dundee and deliver it to partners equipped for that work.
What decides the price of an electric car
Two electric cars of the same model can be priced very differently. One has a body dented in a car-park knock but a healthy battery and a working motor; the other has a pack that failed after years of use, or that sat in flood water. The first holds components the facility can recover and reuse; the second holds a pack that needs careful recycling and little else of value. Hybrids sit somewhere between, with a smaller battery and an engine. Weight, age, mileage and the distance and access for collection in Dundee all feed in too. We do not publish fixed prices, so send the reg and a description.

Learn moreQuestions people ask us
Can you collect an abandoned car from outside my house in Dundee?
No. We can only buy a car from its registered keeper or someone legally entitled to sell it, such as an executor or attorney; someone else can hand a car over for the keeper with the keeper's written authority, but payment still goes to the keeper. If a car has been dumped on your street, report it to Dundee City Council, which has powers to remove abandoned vehicles.
Can you collect an electric car in Dundee that will not move?
Yes. The driver brings a recovery vehicle and does not try to start, charge or drive the car. Tell us if the 12-volt battery is flat as well, because many electric cars cannot be put into neutral or have the parking brake released without it, which changes how the car is loaded.
Should I disconnect anything on a crashed electric car?
No. Leave the battery and fluids alone: depollution is done at the facility. That applies twice over to the high-voltage system, whose cables are usually coloured orange and which only trained staff should touch. Keep the car outdoors, do not charge it, and tell us which part of the car took the impact.
What happens to my charging account and app when the car goes?
They stay linked to you until you remove them, so deal with them before collection. Delete the car from the manufacturer's app, take it off any public charging accounts or cards, and unpair it from a home charger app if one is set up for it. If your energy tariff depends on having an EV, check its terms with your supplier.
Does a missing charging cable or key card change the price?
It can, so tell us when you ask for a price. Cables and key cards supplied with the car go with it to the facility, and the figure is based on the car as you describe it. If they turn up later, let us know before collection. A wall-mounted home charger is not part of the car and stays with you.
