We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Electric cars come to the end of their lives for ordinary reasons, from accident damage to a fault that costs more than the car is worth. What changes is the battery pack. We collect EVs and hybrids from Crewe free of charge, pay by bank transfer and make sure the car goes to a facility equipped to deal with that pack.

From Crewe the car goes to a licensed partner facility equipped for high-voltage work, where trained staff isolate and remove the battery before the rest of the vehicle is dismantled and recycled. When the car is scrapped, the facility notifies the DVLA and issues your Certificate of Destruction. We do not sell EV batteries or parts.

Crewe is about 330 miles from our Fort William base. Collections here share scheduled runs with Walsall and Atherton, which come round less often than our Scottish ones, so we agree the date when you accept the price. A car can be collected from a driveway, a terraced street or a garage that has agreed to it. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Crewe are on our Crewe collection page.

Preparing an EV or hybrid in Crewe for collection

An electric car needs a little more preparation than a petrol one. Start with the 12-volt battery: many EVs will not release the parking brake or go into neutral without it, so tell us if it is flat. Then the charging cables: leave any that came with the car in the boot and tell us if they are missing. Keep every key or key card together, including spares. Finally, do not try to charge a car with a damaged pack, and keep it parked outdoors in Crewe, away from buildings, until it has been collected.

How the high-voltage pack is handled

The high-voltage battery is the part that sets an EV apart, and it is never dealt with at the roadside. At a partner facility with high-voltage training and equipment, trained staff isolate the system and check it is safe before any other dismantling starts. The pack is then removed and assessed. One with usable capacity may be considered for second-life use, such as stationary energy storage; a damaged or worn-out pack goes to a licensed battery recycler, where the cells are processed to recover materials including lithium, nickel and cobalt. Only then is the rest of the car depolluted, dismantled and recycled like any other.

How an EV or hybrid is priced

Two electric cars of the same model can be priced very differently. One has a body dented in a car-park knock but a healthy battery and a working motor; the other has a pack that failed after years of use, or that sat in flood water. The first holds components the facility can recover and reuse; the second holds a pack that needs careful recycling and little else of value. Hybrids sit somewhere between, with a smaller battery and an engine. Weight, age, mileage and the distance and access for collection in Crewe all feed in too. We do not publish fixed prices, so send the reg and a description.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

The car failed its MOT at a garage in Crewe. Can you collect it from there?

Yes, with the garage's agreement. Give us the garage address, settle any storage or repair charges with them first, and make sure any keys you have, and the V5C if you have it, can be handed over. If you will not be there yourself, give the garage your written authority to hand the car over; the person who meets the driver needs their own photo ID. The driver calls ahead.

Can you collect an EV with a flat 12-volt battery from a garage or car park?

Usually, yes, but tell us exactly where it is. A flat 12-volt battery can stop the car going into neutral, and a car that cannot roll is harder to recover from a tight space. Height barriers in multi-storey and underground car parks matter too, so give us the level, any posted entrance height and who can open the barrier.

My electric car was in a flood. Can you still collect it?

Yes, but tell us before we quote. Water can damage the battery pack and its wiring, and a flooded pack can fail without warning, so the car must not be charged or switched on. We plan the collection with that in mind and route the car to a facility that can assess the pack safely.

What happens to my charging account and app when the car goes?

They stay linked to you until you remove them, so deal with them before collection. Delete the car from the manufacturer's app, take it off any public charging accounts or cards, and unpair it from a home charger app if one is set up for it. If your energy tariff depends on having an EV, check its terms with your supplier.

Is a hybrid priced like a full EV?

Not exactly. A hybrid has a smaller battery plus a petrol or diesel engine, so the engine's condition counts as well as the battery's. Full and plug-in hybrid packs run at high voltage and need specialist handling, damaged or not. Tell us whether the car is a full, plug-in or mild hybrid, and whether the engine runs, when you ask for a price.
