We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

If your car will not start, has a warning light the garage wants a fortune to fix, or has just failed its MOT, you can sell it to us exactly as it is. Send the registration and a plain description of the fault, and we reply with a firm price. There is nothing to repair first and no charge for collection.

The car is collected from Crewe on a recovery vehicle, so it never needs to move under its own power. Payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name. As a rule, the cars we buy go to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility, which issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA when a car is scrapped.

Crewe is about 330 miles from our Fort William base. Collections here share scheduled runs with Walsall and Atherton, which come round less often than our Scottish ones, so we agree the date when you accept the price. A car can be collected from a driveway, a terraced street or a garage that has agreed to it. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Crewe are on our Crewe collection page.

Describing a broken car for an accurate price

Precise information gives you a firm quote that reflects the car; vague information means that firm quote has to allow for the unknown. Tell us the make, model and mileage, then the symptoms in plain words: will not start, starts but will not move, overheats, loses coolant, runs rough, jumps out of gear. If the MOT tester or a garage has put the fault in writing, send a photo of it. Say whether the car is complete or whether the wheels, battery or catalytic converter have been removed. Tell us where it is parked in Crewe and whether the wheels turn. We then send one figure, and that figure stands on the day as long as the car is as you described.

Repair it or sell it as it is?

Owners often put off the decision, and a broken car sitting on the drive only loses value: batteries go flat, brakes seize and tyres crack. Deciding sooner keeps more options open. If the repair bill is more than the car is worth to you, selling it as it is avoids spending money you will not get back. If you might fix it, get a firm price from us first, so you know what the car is worth unrepaired before you commit. The quote costs nothing and there is no obligation. Collection from Crewe is free when you accept, and payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name.

Preparing a car that will not drive

Once you accept the price and a date is agreed, there is little to do. Make sure someone can meet the driver with photo ID, any keys you have and the V5C if you have it, or tell us in advance if that is a problem. Empty the car, including the boot and any spare wheel well. If the battery is flat and the car has an electric handbrake or an automatic gearbox, say so, because those cars can be harder to move without power. The driver compares the car with your description, sees your ID, then loads it on the recovery vehicle with any keys and paperwork. Payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name once those checks are done, and as a rule, cars we buy go on to a licensed treatment facility.

Read our full guide to selling a broken car, see what happens after you send the reg, or ask for a firm price.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

How long will I wait for collection in Crewe?

We cannot promise a fixed wait. If the car has to go by a certain day, for example before a tenancy ends or before a garage starts charging storage, tell us when you ask for a price. If the collection date we can offer does not suit you, you are free to turn the price down and nothing is owed.

Should I get the fault diagnosed before asking for a price?

You do not have to, but a diagnosis can help. If a garage has already read the fault codes or written up the MOT failure, send us what they found. If not, describe the symptoms plainly. Either way we give you a firm figure for the car as it is.

The catalytic converter has been stolen. Can I still sell the car?

Yes. A car without its converter still has value in its metal and its other parts. Tell us it is missing when you send the reg, because the converter contains precious metals and its absence lowers the price. If you reported the theft to the police, keep the crime reference with your records.

Is my broken car worth more than a scrap price?

It can be. If the fault is confined to one part and the engine, gearbox or panels are in demand, those parts carry value beyond the metal. Newer and popular models tend to benefit most. Tell us exactly what is wrong and we price the whole car.

What documents do I need to sell a car that does not run?

Photo ID and proof the car is yours to sell. The V5C shows who the registered keeper is, so have it ready if you have it; if it is lost, a purchase receipt or similar can show you own the car, and you write to the DVLA about the sale instead of using the online service. The driver checks your ID and paperwork before loading the car.
