We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

If your car will not start, has a warning light the garage wants a fortune to fix, or has just failed its MOT, you can sell it to us exactly as it is. Send the registration and a plain description of the fault, and we reply with a firm price. There is nothing to repair first and no charge for collection.

Because the car travels on a recovery truck, it does not need a working engine, and a car kept off the road on SORN needs no tax or MOT either. We pay by bank transfer, never cash, since cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain. If an accident rather than a fault ended the car's life, our salvage page for Glasgow is the better fit.

Glasgow is roughly 105 miles down the A82 from our Fort William base, and we have no depot in the city. Collections across the city are grouped into scheduled runs, and the date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us exactly where the car is parked, because street parking decides which truck we send. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Glasgow are on our Glasgow collection page.

Describing a broken car for an accurate price

Think about what a mechanic would ask. When did the problem start, and what happened just before: a noise, smoke, a warning light, a loss of power? Has it been diagnosed, and what did the garage find? Is it one fault, such as a slipping clutch or a failed turbo, or several at once? Photos of the dashboard with the ignition on, the engine bay and the MOT paperwork all help. For a car that has been standing, say how long it has been parked and whether the battery is flat. A fault confined to one part leaves the rest of the car's value intact, so the more precise you are, the better the price can reflect it.

When selling a broken car makes more sense than fixing it

A repair can make sense when the fault is cheap to fix and the rest of the car is sound. It makes less sense when the estimate is a large share of the car's value, when parts are hard to find, or when the MOT has also turned up corrosion or suspension work. Private buyers will knock money off for any known fault, so a repair does not always come back in full when you sell. Before deciding, ask a garage for a written estimate and send it to us with the reg. You can then compare a firm offer for the car as it stands with the true cost of fixing it, and choose with the numbers in front of you.

Preparing a car that will not drive

Collection is simplest when the recovery vehicle can pull up close to the car. Around Glasgow that might mean a driveway, a garage court, a workplace car park or the street outside your home. Let us know about narrow lanes, low bridges, barriers or a car boxed in by others. If it has been off the road for a while, check whether the tyres still hold air and whether the handbrake releases. Have photo ID, any keys you have and the V5C if you have it ready, and take out anything you want to keep. A car on SORN has to stay off the public road, so do not push it onto the street to make loading easier.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My car is not LEZ compliant. Can you still collect it in Glasgow?

Yes. The zone's penalties are for driving a non-compliant vehicle inside it, and a car carried on a recovery truck is not being driven. If the car is parked inside the zone, leave it where it is rather than driving it out, and tell us the street when you send the reg so the driver can plan the approach.

The garage could not find the fault. Can I still sell the car?

Yes. Tell us what the car does, or does not do: whether it turns over, cuts out, shows warning lights or makes a noise, and what has already been checked. We price the car on that description. An unknown fault is priced more cautiously than a diagnosed one, so any garage report helps.

The catalytic converter has been stolen. Can I still sell the car?

Yes. A car without its converter still has value in its metal and its other parts. Tell us it is missing when you send the reg, because the converter contains precious metals and its absence lowers the price. If you reported the theft to the police, keep the crime reference with your records.

Is my broken car worth more than a scrap price?

It can be. If the fault is confined to one part and the engine, gearbox or panels are in demand, those parts carry value beyond the metal. Newer and popular models tend to benefit most. Tell us exactly what is wrong and we price the whole car.

What documents do I need to sell a car that does not run?

Photo ID and proof the car is yours to sell. The V5C shows who the registered keeper is, so have it ready if you have it; if it is lost, a purchase receipt or similar can show you own the car, and you write to the DVLA about the sale instead of using the online service. The driver checks your ID and paperwork before loading the car.
