We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

A car that has failed its MOT on rust, or taken a knock to the rear, can still hold an engine, gearbox and interior worth reusing. Motor Salvage Group buys cars like that from Glasgow sellers for their parts value. We collect free, pay by bank transfer and send the car to a licensed facility, where it is dismantled and the remainder recycled.

A running engine or a gearbox that shifts cleanly can lift the figure above what the metal alone would fetch. We do not sell parts: the breaking is done by licensed partners. If your priority is getting rid of the car rather than its parts value, our guide to breakers yards explains the difference.

Glasgow is roughly 105 miles down the A82 from our Fort William base, and we have no depot in the city. Collections across the city are grouped into scheduled runs, and the date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us exactly where the car is parked, because street parking decides which truck we send. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Glasgow are on our local collection notes.

Parts value: what we look at

Demand is the least visible part of a parts price. A component is worth most when plenty of similar cars on the road need one, so a sound gearbox from a model whose gearboxes are known to wear, or an undamaged door in a colour that model was widely sold in, is easier to place than the same part from a rare version. That is why we ask for the exact model, engine and trim rather than just the make. Condition decides whether a part can be reused at all; demand decides what it adds. The rest of the figure comes from the metal that cannot be reused and from the distance and access for collection in Glasgow.

Before the collection in Glasgow

Anything taken off the car since you described it should be mentioned before the driver sets out, because the parts in the quote are what the figure is built on. The paperwork is simple: photo ID, and the V5C if you have it (if not, tell us before we quote). If a key is lost, say so up front: we can still buy the car, though it may alter the figure and the truck we send. Away on the day? Another adult you nominate can meet the driver, bringing photo identification of their own and a signed note from you. A recovery vehicle needs room to load, so warn us about narrow lanes, low garages or a handbrake that will not release. To keep a private number, retain it with the DVLA before the sale: it cannot be moved once the car is scrapped.

When parts value will not add much

For some cars the catalytic converter and the metal are most of the value. That can be the case for an older small car whose engine, gearbox and panels are worn or corroded: the converter still holds recoverable precious metals and the shell is sold by weight, but little else will be reused. A parts price then sits close to a scrap price, and it is simpler to treat the car as scrap. Our scrap car service handles it with the same free collection from Glasgow and the same payment by bank transfer. Either way, leave the converter on the car, because a missing one cannot be priced in.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Which Glasgow postcodes do you cover?

We cover G1 to G5 in the city centre and the districts around it, out to Knightswood and Drumchapel (G13, G15), Shettleston (G32), Rutherglen (G73), Giffnock (G46) and Newton Mearns (G77). Suburbs outside those, such as Bishopbriggs or Clydebank, may still be on a run: send the postcode with the reg on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether we can collect.

Does a car need to run to be worth breaking?

No, but it helps. A car that starts and drives shows the engine and gearbox are healthy, which adds most value. A non-runner can still be worth more than scrap if its panels, interior, wheels and catalytic converter are good. The driver brings a recovery vehicle either way.

Does a non-original engine or gearbox change a parts price?

It can. A replacement engine or gearbox still counts if it works, so tell us it has been changed, roughly how many miles it has done and whether you have the garage invoice. A unit with no history is harder to value, and one that differs from the car's original specification may be less in demand.

Can I keep some parts before you collect the car?

You can, but tell us before we quote, because the price is based on what the car contains. Taking off the engine, wheels or catalytic converter lowers it most. Do not touch the battery or fluids: they are removed during depollution at the facility. And make sure the car can still be loaded.

Do you buy vans for breaking as well as cars?

Yes. Vans and pickups often break well because their engines, gearboxes, doors and load-area fittings are wanted by tradespeople keeping similar vehicles running. We collect from home addresses and business premises in Glasgow alike, at no charge.
