We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Every breaking decision comes down to one question: are the parts worth more than the metal? For a common model with a healthy engine, the answer is often yes. Tell us about the car at your Edinburgh address and we will price it on its reusable parts, arrange free collection and pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.

This page is for selling a car, not buying bits for one: there is no stock list and no parts counter here. What we work out is how much the parts still on your car add to its value, and you get that figure in writing on WhatsApp before anyone sets off. If nothing on it is worth reusing, start with the scrap car page for Edinburgh.

Edinburgh is around 145 miles from our Fort William base, and jobs in the city and the Lothians are grouped into scheduled runs rather than sent one at a time. We agree the date when you accept the price. In the centre's permit zones and tenement streets, we need the exact street before a truck is sent. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Edinburgh are on our page for Edinburgh.

What decides a parts price for a car in Edinburgh

A parts price is built up from the car rather than read off a weight chart. We start with the model, because demand for parts follows how many of that model are still on the road. Then we look at what works: an engine that starts and runs cleanly and a gearbox that shifts through every gear add the most. After that come the catalytic converter, the panels and doors, the wheels and tyres, the lights and the interior. Damage, missing parts and very high mileage take value away. Distance and access to your address in Edinburgh are part of the figure too, and so is that week's metal price for whatever cannot be reused.

What to have ready when you sell for parts

Anything taken off the car since you described it should be mentioned before the driver sets out, because the parts in the quote are what the figure is built on. The paperwork is simple: photo ID, and the V5C if you have it (if not, tell us before we quote). If a key is lost, say so up front: we can still buy the car, though it may alter the figure and the truck we send. Away on the day? Another adult you nominate can meet the driver, bringing photo identification of their own and a signed note from you. A recovery vehicle needs room to load, so warn us about narrow lanes, low garages or a handbrake that will not release. To keep a private number, retain it with the DVLA before the sale: it cannot be moved once the car is scrapped.

Cars that are worth about the same either way

For some cars the catalytic converter and the metal are most of the value. That can be the case for an older small car whose engine, gearbox and panels are worn or corroded: the converter still holds recoverable precious metals and the shell is sold by weight, but little else will be reused. A parts price then sits close to a scrap price, and it is simpler to treat the car as scrap. Our scrap car service handles it with the same free collection from Edinburgh and the same payment by bank transfer. Either way, leave the converter on the car, because a missing one cannot be priced in.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Is an Edinburgh LEZ penalty a reason to sell the car?

Not on its own. The zone only affects driving in the city centre, so a non-compliant car can still be used elsewhere. It becomes a reason when the car also needs costly work, such as repairs to pass an MOT. We price the car as it is from the reg and its condition, so you can weigh that figure against the repair bill.

Does a car need to run to be worth breaking?

No, but it helps. A car that starts and drives shows the engine and gearbox are healthy, which adds most value. A non-runner can still be worth more than scrap if its panels, interior, wheels and catalytic converter are good. The driver brings a recovery vehicle either way.

Does a non-original engine or gearbox change a parts price?

It can. A replacement engine or gearbox still counts if it works, so tell us it has been changed, roughly how many miles it has done and whether you have the garage invoice. A unit with no history is harder to value, and one that differs from the car's original specification may be less in demand.

Can I buy a part from a car you collect?

No. We buy vehicles and do not sell parts, so we cannot reserve or supply a component. The licensed facility that breaks the car handles the parts. For a used part, a breaker that publishes its stock is the better place to ask.

My car has accident damage. Can it still be sold for parts?

Usually. What matters is where the damage is. A rear or side impact often leaves the engine, gearbox and front panels reusable, while a heavy frontal impact can take out the engine bay. Send photos of the damage and the rest of the car, and we will price what survives.
