We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

A full electric car, a plug-in hybrid or a conventional hybrid: all three carry a high-voltage battery, and all three need careful handling at the end of their lives. We buy them from sellers in Edinburgh, collect them free on a recovery vehicle and pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.

The collection itself asks little of you: a recovery vehicle takes the car away as it is. The careful work happens later, at a partner facility where the high-voltage system is made safe before anything else is touched. We buy the car; we do not sell batteries or parts.

Edinburgh is around 145 miles from our Fort William base, and jobs in the city and the Lothians are grouped into scheduled runs rather than sent one at a time. We agree the date when you accept the price. In the centre's permit zones and tenement streets, we need the exact street before a truck is sent. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Edinburgh are on our page for Edinburgh.

Before the driver arrives: an EV checklist

An electric car needs a little more preparation than a petrol one. Start with the 12-volt battery: many EVs will not release the parking brake or go into neutral without it, so tell us if it is flat. Then the charging cables: leave any that came with the car in the boot and tell us if they are missing. Keep every key or key card together, including spares. Finally, do not try to charge a car with a damaged pack, and keep it parked outdoors in Edinburgh, away from buildings, until it has been collected.

How the high-voltage pack is handled

A traction battery runs at several hundred volts and stores enough energy to injure someone or start a fire if handled carelessly, so the order of work matters. First the high-voltage circuit is isolated by someone trained to do it. Then the pack is lifted out as a unit and checked. Only after that does the ordinary dismantling begin, from draining coolant and brake fluid to removing reusable parts. Batteries are recycled or, where they still hold charge well, assessed for reuse. We do not sell packs, modules or motors, and neither the battery nor the car is taken apart by the driver or on your property.

What decides the price of an electric car

When you ask for a price, the details that move it most are about the battery. What range was the car managing before it stopped? Has the dashboard shown a battery or charging fault? Has the car been in water, a fire or an impact to the underside, where the pack sits? After that come the ordinary factors: make, model, age, mileage, condition, and how far the car is from our collection routes. The week's metal prices play a part as well. Send clear photos and the registration, and we will reply with a firm figure that reflects the car you describe.

Read our full guide to scrapping an electric or hybrid car, see the three steps from reg to payment, or ask for a firm price.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My car is in a permit parking zone in Edinburgh. Do I need to arrange anything?

Tell us the street and the zone when you send the reg. The driver loads from the kerb, so on a narrow street or one beside the tram lines we plan the approach in advance. If the car is taxed, insured and has a valid MOT, moving it to a wider road beforehand can help. If it is not road legal, do not drive it, even a short way.

My EV shows a battery fault and will not drive. Is it still worth scrapping?

Yes. A failed pack lowers the value, but the car still has a body, wheels, a drive motor and electronics that count. Tell us the exact warning message and the mileage, and we will price it on what the facility can recover.

Should I disconnect anything on a crashed electric car?

No. Leave the battery and fluids alone: depollution is done at the facility. That applies twice over to the high-voltage system, whose cables are usually coloured orange and which only trained staff should touch. Keep the car outdoors, do not charge it, and tell us which part of the car took the impact.

Can I scrap an electric car that is still on finance?

Not until the finance is settled. On hire purchase or PCP the finance company owns the car until the agreement ends, so ask the lender for a settlement figure first. If the battery was leased separately, as on some older EVs, the same applies to the battery. Tell us about either when you ask for a price.

Can I get a price without a battery health report?

Yes. The battery's condition is one of the main things that sets the price, so send what you know: the mileage, how far the car went on a full charge before it stopped, any dashboard warnings and whether it still charges. A health figure from the maker's app or a garage is useful if you have one, but it is not required.
