We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

People search for a breakers yard for two reasons: to sell a car or to buy a part. This page is for selling. A breaker takes a car whose parts still have a use, strips them and recycles the rest. Motor Salvage Group buys cars and vans for that purpose and passes them to licensed Authorised Treatment Facility partners, who do the breaking.

Being open about faults works in your favour. A car described as a non-runner with a failed gearbox is priced on that basis, and the price stands when the driver finds exactly that. What moves a figure after it is agreed is a surprise: missing wheels, a removed catalytic converter or damage nobody mentioned. So list the faults, the missing parts and the mileage when you send the reg.

Glasgow is roughly 105 miles down the A82 from our Fort William base, and we have no depot in the city. Collections across the city are grouped into scheduled runs, and the date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us exactly where the car is parked, because street parking decides which truck we send. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Glasgow are on our Glasgow collection page.

Why there is no yard trip to make

Count what a trip to a breakers yard really involves. Someone has to drive the car there, which needs tax, insurance and a valid MOT, or tow it, which needs a second person to steer, or put it on a trailer. Someone has to get home again afterwards. And the price is only settled once you are at the gate, when turning round is the last thing you want to do. Selling by collection moves all of that onto us and puts the price first. The figure is agreed on WhatsApp from your description and photos before anything moves, collection is free, and the car goes from your address to a licensed partner for breaking. For how each part affects the figure, see what makes a car worth more in parts.

The sale, the handover and the paperwork

Before collection, have your photo ID, the V5C if you have it, and details of a bank account in your name. Clear out the cabin and boot, and retain any private plate through the DVLA first. Leave the parts fitted unless you told us you would remove them: a car described with its wheels and catalytic converter should still have them when the truck arrives. Before the logbook goes, note its 11-digit reference and tear off the yellow V5C/3 slip. Tell the DVLA about the sale online with that reference, keeping the slip with your records, or fill in the slip and post it. With no V5C, write to the DVLA with your name and address, the registration, make and model, the date of sale and our name and address. Once the DVLA knows, any full months of tax left are refunded automatically.

Came here to buy a part?

Plenty of people who search for a breakers yard want to buy a part, not sell a car. We do not sell parts, and we would rather say so plainly. We buy cars, pass them to licensed partners for breaking, and those partners decide what happens to the components. We cannot check stock, reserve a part or post one out. If you need a used part, look for a breaker that sells to the public and ask three things: has the part been tested, can it be returned if it does not fit, and does it come from a car with the same engine code or model year. If the repair no longer makes sense, though, we may be able to buy the whole car from you in Glasgow.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My car is on a Glasgow tenement street with permit bays. Can you still collect it?

Yes. Give us the street and say whether the car is in a permit bay, on a yellow line, in a back lane or in a shared court, and roughly how much room is around it, so the driver knows where to load from. Have any keys ready at the agreed time.

Will a breaker still want a car that has been partly stripped?

Often, yes, if what remains is still useful: panels, glass, lights, seats or running gear. The price reflects what is missing, so list it when you send the registration. A car stripped down to a shell is priced closer to scrap, and it still goes to a licensed facility to be broken and recycled.

Can I see the car broken or keep a part afterwards?

No. Once we have collected the car, it passes to a licensed partner facility, which does the breaking and keeps what it recovers. If there is something you want to keep, such as a set of alloys or a child seat, tell us before we quote and take it off before collection.

My car is on a SORN. Can it still be sold for breaking?

Yes. A SORN only means the car must be kept off the public road, which is no obstacle when it is lifted onto a recovery vehicle from your drive or garage. Once you tell the DVLA the car has been sold to the motor trade, the SORN no longer applies to you.

Will you price my car for breaking without seeing it?

Yes. The registration tells us the make, model and engine, and your description and photos tell us what works, what has failed and what is missing. From that we send a firm price on WhatsApp, and it stands if the car matches when the driver sees it. The more exact the description, the fewer questions on the day.
