We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Often the trigger is a repair quote nobody wants to pay. A dead clutch, a failed turbo, a blown head gasket or an electrical fault that keeps coming back can all make repair poor value on an older car. We buy the car with the fault still in it, and the price counts the parts that still work.

There is no collection charge and no admin fee. The journey from Fort William is already allowed for in the figure we quote, and that figure is what you are paid if the car matches your description. We collect from driveways, streets, garages and car parks around Dundee, wherever a recovery vehicle can reach.

Dundee is around 130 miles from our Fort William base, and collections in the city, Broughty Ferry and the Angus side are grouped into scheduled runs across Tayside. We agree the date when you accept the price, and the driver rings on approach. Tell us if the car is in a multi-storey or a communal court. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Dundee are on our Dundee collection page.

Describing a broken car for an accurate price

Precise information gives you a firm quote that reflects the car; vague information means that firm quote has to allow for the unknown. Tell us the make, model and mileage, then the symptoms in plain words: will not start, starts but will not move, overheats, loses coolant, runs rough, jumps out of gear. If the MOT tester or a garage has put the fault in writing, send a photo of it. Say whether the car is complete or whether the wheels, battery or catalytic converter have been removed. Tell us where it is parked in Dundee and whether the wheels turn. We then send one figure, and that figure stands on the day as long as the car is as you described.

Repair it or sell it as it is?

Owners often put off the decision, and a broken car sitting on the drive only loses value: batteries go flat, brakes seize and tyres crack. Deciding sooner keeps more options open. If the repair bill is more than the car is worth to you, selling it as it is avoids spending money you will not get back. If you might fix it, get a firm price from us first, so you know what the car is worth unrepaired before you commit. The quote costs nothing and there is no obligation. Collection from Dundee is free when you accept, and payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name.

Preparing a car that will not drive

Once you accept the price and a date is agreed, there is little to do. Make sure someone can meet the driver with photo ID, any keys you have and the V5C if you have it, or tell us in advance if that is a problem. Empty the car, including the boot and any spare wheel well. If the battery is flat and the car has an electric handbrake or an automatic gearbox, say so, because those cars can be harder to move without power. The driver compares the car with your description, sees your ID, then loads it on the recovery vehicle with any keys and paperwork. Payment is by bank transfer to an account in your name once those checks are done, and as a rule, cars we buy go on to a licensed treatment facility.

Read our full guide to selling a broken car, see what happens after you send the reg, or get your price now.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My car is in a multi-storey car park or a communal court in Dundee. Can you collect it?

It depends on access. Height limits and barriers in multi-storey car parks can stop a recovery truck, so tell us the car park, level and bay when you book, and we will say whether it can be reached. If the car is taxed, insured and has a valid MOT, moving it to street level first keeps things simple. In a communal court, tell us whether there is vehicle access and any barrier.

Should I get the fault diagnosed before asking for a price?

You do not have to, but a diagnosis can help. If a garage has already read the fault codes or written up the MOT failure, send us what they found. If not, describe the symptoms plainly. Either way we give you a firm figure for the car as it is.

I have already taken some parts off the car. Will you still buy it?

Usually, yes, but tell us what has gone. Missing parts change the figure, particularly the catalytic converter, wheels, battery or anything from the engine bay. A price given for a complete car cannot stand if the driver finds it stripped, so an accurate list keeps the figure firm.

How is a broken car priced differently from a scrap car?

A scrap car is priced mostly on weight and metal. A broken car can also be priced on the parts that still work, such as a good gearbox behind a failed engine. We look at the make, model, age, mileage and the fault you describe, as well as how far we travel to collect it.

Can I sell my broken car in Dundee if the V5C is lost?

Usually, yes. A lost logbook does not stop the sale, but mention it when you send the reg and describe the fault. The driver checks your photo ID and your proof of ownership, such as a purchase receipt, before loading the car. Because there is no V5C, you write to the DVLA about the sale rather than using the online service.
