We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Choosing a car scrapper comes down to a few checks you can make in a single message, before anyone turns up at your door. The answers matter more than the headline figure. A price is only worth what actually reaches your account, and a sale only protects you if it is recorded properly and the car ends up somewhere permitted to deal with it.

We keep our side of the sale easy to check. The price comes in writing, with how long it stands. Payment goes into an account in your name, which gives you a record of who bought the car. And the agreed figure changes only if the car turns out different from your description.

Atherton is about 300 miles from our Fort William base, and collections here are grouped with other north-west and Cheshire collections, including Crewe, into scheduled runs that come round less often than our Scottish ones. We agree the date when you accept the price. Tell us where the car is parked and how close a truck can get. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Atherton are on our local collection notes.

How to tell a genuine car scrapper from a risky one

Imagine two offers for the same car. One is a round figure over the phone with cash on collection. The other follows the registration and photos you sent, is paid by bank transfer and names an Authorised Treatment Facility as the destination, which is where the Certificate of Destruction comes from once the car is scrapped. The first is illegal, because cash for scrap vehicles is banned across Great Britain, and it leaves you with no record of the sale. The law also expects a buyer to hold a metal dealer's licence from the council and to note your photo ID. Be wary of anything that sounds official but is not: the DVLA does not approve or license scrap buyers, so talk of DVLA approval is a warning sign. A higher figure is worth little if it is cut at the kerb.

Why quotes from car scrappers differ

Most of a scrap car's value is its metal, so weight sets the starting point and that week's metal prices move it up or down. Completeness comes next: a car with its catalytic converter, wheels and battery still fitted is worth more than one that has been stripped. Where the engine or gearbox is still in demand, the make and model can add to the figure, and a car with one costly fault may do better through a sale as a broken car. Distance and access count as well; in our quotes they are built into the figure rather than added as a collection charge. When one figure sits far above the others for the same description, ask how it was reached and what could lower it at the door.

Before and during collection

Missing paperwork does not rule out a sale, but it changes the checks. A car can be scrapped without an MOT or road tax, and it can be on a SORN. Without keys, the driver needs to be able to winch or lift it, so say so when you message us. Without the V5C, we will ask for photo ID and other documents that link you to the car, such as an insurance certificate or a purchase receipt. On the day, the driver looks at those documents, compares the car with your description and records the sale. If everything lines up, the agreed price stands and is paid by bank transfer to an account in your name. The Certificate of Destruction comes later, from the treatment facility, once the car is scrapped.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

Do you collect from Leigh, Tyldesley and Westhoughton as well as Atherton?

Yes. M46 covers Atherton, and Tyldesley (M29), Leigh (WN7), Westhoughton (BL5) and Walkden (M28) are on the same run. Wigan and Bolton may be too: send your postcode with the reg and we will confirm on WhatsApp whether we can collect.

Do I need the V5C logbook to scrap my car?

It helps, but you can sell without it. With a logbook, we take the main document and you keep the yellow motor trade section, then tell the DVLA online with the reference number or post that slip to them. Without one, show us photo ID and something that proves the car is yours, and send the DVLA a letter instead.

Will a scrapper take a car with no keys?

We will, as long as we know in advance. Missing keys can change the price and the vehicle we send, because a car that cannot be unlocked or steered may need different loading equipment. Mention it when you ask for a price, and hand over any keys you have on the day.

Who gives me the Certificate of Destruction?

The Authorised Treatment Facility that scraps the car, not the buyer who collects it and not the DVLA. When a car we buy is scrapped, the licensed facility we use issues the certificate and notifies the DVLA. Your responsibility for the car ends when you tell the DVLA yourself that you have sold it to the motor trade.

Why would a scrapper ask whether the car is on finance?

Because a car on hire purchase or PCP is not yours to sell until the agreement is settled: it belongs to the finance company. Asking keeps the sale lawful for both sides. Settle the balance, or get the lender's written permission, and tell us about the agreement when you ask for a price.
