We use these details to price your car and arrange collection, never for marketing. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.

Free collectionNo collection charge, whether the car starts or not.
Bank transfer, never cashPaying cash for scrap vehicles is illegal in Great Britain, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 in England and Wales and the Air Weapons and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2015 in Scotland. We pay by bank transfer to an account in your name.
Paperwork explainedYou tell the DVLA you have sold it to the motor trade, and any full months left on the vehicle tax are then refunded automatically. The licensed treatment facility notifies the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped.
Recycled properlyScrapped cars are drained of fluids, stripped of reusable parts and recycled at permitted treatment facilities.

Choosing between car scrappers in Livingston is less about who advertises loudest and more about who can explain the process clearly, from the first message to the paperwork after collection. Anyone who turns vague when you ask for detail is best avoided, however good the figure sounds.

You send the registration and a description, and we reply with one firm figure and how long it holds. There is no collection charge and no admin fee on top. If anything about the car is unclear from your message, we ask before quoting rather than after the truck arrives, so the price you accept is the price that stands.

Livingston is roughly 130 miles from our Fort William base and shares scheduled runs with Edinburgh and the rest of West Lothian. The date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us if the car is in a garage court, a shared car park or on a narrow street, so we send the right truck. Industrial units are fine. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Livingston are on our Livingston collection page.

Checks to make before you choose a scrapper in Livingston

Start with payment. Paying cash for a scrap vehicle is illegal in Great Britain, so rule out any buyer who mentions notes; a legitimate one pays by a traceable method such as bank transfer. Next, ask where the car will go. The answer should be an Authorised Treatment Facility with an environmental permit from SEPA in Scotland or the Environment Agency in England, and that facility, not the driver, issues the Certificate of Destruction when the car is scrapped. Dealers also need a metal dealer's licence from their council, called a scrap metal dealer licence in England and Wales, and must record who they buy from, so expect a photo ID check. Walk away from anyone whose price falls at the door for faults you had already described, or who claims DVLA approval: the DVLA does not approve scrap buyers.

What decides a scrapper's price in Livingston

A fair scrap price is built from a handful of things, and a buyer should be able to name them. The car's weight and the current metal prices set the base. Anything missing lowers it, especially the catalytic converter, which contains precious metals. Parts still in demand, such as a sound gearbox on a common model, can raise it. The journey to Livingston and the access at your address are part of the figure too, so a quote with no collection charge has already allowed for them. If a scrapper cannot explain their number in those terms, it is hard to know whether it will survive the visit. If an accident rather than age ended the car's life, a salvage price may count the surviving parts.

What happens when we collect your car

Have three things to hand: photo ID, the V5C logbook if you still have it, and details of a bank account in your name. Clear the car of belongings, including the boot, door pockets and any parking permit. If the car has a private plate you want to keep, apply to the DVLA to retain it before collection, because a number cannot be taken off a car once it has been scrapped. Tell us about missing keys, flat tyres or a tight parking spot so the right recovery vehicle is sent. The driver checks the car against what you told us and records your details. If it matches, the agreed price stands and is paid by bank transfer. The Certificate of Destruction follows from the treatment facility when the car is scrapped.

Three steps. One WhatsApp message.

You never fill in a long form or wait on hold. Send the reg, we do the rest.

  1. 1

    Send your reg on WhatsApp

Message us your registration and postcode, with a line on condition and a photo or two if the car is damaged. Or use the quote form, which opens WhatsApp with your details filled in.

  2. 2

    Get a firm price

We price on weight, make and model, condition and completeness, demand for its parts, distance and that week's metal prices, then reply with one figure. No range, and no haggling on the doorstep if the car is as described.

  3. 3

    Collected and paid

We agree a collection date. The driver checks the car against your description and sees your ID, and you are paid by bank transfer.

Questions people ask us

My van is on an industrial estate in Livingston. Can you collect from work?

Yes, from Deer Park, Kirkton, Houstoun, Brucefield or any other estate, provided someone on site can hand over any keys and the V5C if you have them, shows their own photo ID and, if they are not the registered keeper, has the keeper's or company's written authority. Let us know the unit number and any gate or barrier times.

I cannot find the V5C. Can I still scrap the car?

Yes. Expect an ID check and a request for proof of ownership, such as the receipt from when you bought it. The DVLA's online service needs the logbook reference, so you write to them instead, giving your name and address, the registration, make and model, the exact date of sale and the buyer's name and address. If the car is registered to someone else, tell us before we quote.

Why does a scrapper ask about keys before quoting?

Because keys affect how the car is moved and what it is worth. Without them the steering may stay locked and the car may need different equipment to load it, so missing keys can change the price and the vehicle we send. A buyer who asks now, rather than at your door, is pricing the car honestly. Tell us about keys when you send the reg.

Who gives me the Certificate of Destruction?

The Authorised Treatment Facility that scraps the car, not the buyer who collects it and not the DVLA. When a car we buy is scrapped, the licensed facility we use issues the certificate and notifies the DVLA. Your responsibility for the car ends when you tell the DVLA yourself that you have sold it to the motor trade.

Why would a scrapper ask whether the car is on finance?

Because a car on hire purchase or PCP is not yours to sell until the agreement is settled: it belongs to the finance company. Asking keeps the sale lawful for both sides. Settle the balance, or get the lender's written permission, and tell us about the agreement when you ask for a price.
