When a car has reached the end of its life, it has to be depolluted at a licensed facility before it can be crushed. We arrange that for sellers in Livingston: a firm price on WhatsApp, free collection, payment by bank transfer, and delivery to a partner facility that handles the depollution, the dismantling and the Certificate of Destruction once the car is scrapped.
We buy the car and handle the collection from Livingston; the dismantling itself is done by a licensed partner facility. Before you hand the driver the V5C, tear off the yellow V5C/3 slip. You then tell the DVLA you have sold the car to the motor trade, either online with the V5C reference number or by filling in the slip and posting it. If you tell the DVLA online, keep the slip with your records. We do not sell the parts the facility recovers.
Livingston is roughly 130 miles from our Fort William base and shares scheduled runs with Edinburgh and the rest of West Lothian. The date is agreed when you accept the price. Tell us if the car is in a garage court, a shared car park or on a narrow street, so we send the right truck. Industrial units are fine. Postcodes, districts and how collection runs in Livingston are on our Livingston collection page.
Inside a licensed treatment facility
From your side the car's last journey is quiet, but the facility works through it in a set order. It is booked in against the registration and chassis number, so the record matches the car that left Livingston. The depollution bay comes first: battery, fuel, oils, coolant and refrigerant are taken out and stored for licensed waste contractors, and the airbags are dealt with. Reusable components are then removed and labelled, and the catalytic converter is set aside for its precious metals. The remaining shell is crushed and fed to a shredder, and its metals are sorted for recycling. When the car is scrapped, the facility notifies the DVLA and issues your Certificate of Destruction.
Preparing a car for dismantling
A few details change how a car is collected and where it goes, so give them when you send the reg. Say if the car is leaking fuel, oil or coolant, if it has been in a fire or a flood, or if an airbag has gone off. Say if it is electric or hybrid, because those go to partners equipped for high-voltage batteries. Tell us about access at your address in Livingston: a narrow lane, a low garage, or a car with no wheels. Then have photo ID ready, and the V5C if you have it. Empty the car of your belongings and leave the battery and fluids alone: depollution is done at the facility.
Why a licensed facility matters
The certificate is the reason the destination matters. A Certificate of Destruction shows that your car was treated and destroyed legally, and only an Authorised Treatment Facility can issue one. A yard without that authorisation cannot, however convincing its paperwork looks. The facilities we use are licensed partners, and we will name the one taking your car from Livingston if you ask. When the certificate arrives, keep it with the DVLA's confirmation that you sold the car to the motor trade and a note of the price and the collection date. Together they answer any later question about the car.

Learn moreQuestions people ask us
My van is on an industrial estate in Livingston. Can you collect from work?
Yes, from Deer Park, Kirkton, Houstoun, Brucefield or any other estate, provided someone on site can hand over any keys and the V5C if you have them, shows their own photo ID and, if they are not the registered keeper, has the keeper's or company's written authority. Let us know the unit number and any gate or barrier times.
How can I check the dismantling facility is licensed?
Ask us which licensed facility will take your car and we will tell you. Then search for it on the public register: SEPA's for sites in Scotland, the Environment Agency's for sites in England. An authorised treatment facility will be listed there. If a buyer cannot tell you where a car is going, do not sell to them.
Should I remove the battery or drain the fuel before collection?
No. Depollution is the facility's job and is done under controlled conditions. Draining fuel or oil at home creates a fire and pollution risk, and disposing of it safely becomes your problem. Leave the car as it is and tell us about anything leaking or damaged.
Can I get parts back from my dismantled car?
No. Once we have bought the car it is ours, and it goes to the facility, which keeps the parts it recovers. If you want to keep anything, remove it before collection and tell us when you ask for a price, because it changes the figure.
Can I sell a car with a private registration for dismantling?
Yes. If you want to keep the number, ask the DVLA to put it on a retention document (V778) or move it to another vehicle before we collect, because a number left on a car that is scrapped goes with it. Tell us when you send the reg whether the plate is staying on the car.
